Asset settings
Asset settings is one of the advanced settings, found under Settings → Advanced → Asset settings. It manages organization-wide behavior for your assets.
Utility meters
The option in this section is Enable utility meters for assets. When switched on, assets can record utility meter readings (for example electricity, water, or heating), which you can then track over time.
Meter data feeds Flowtly's utility and sustainability reports, so it is worth keeping the readings up to date — monthly is a good rhythm.
Serial numbers
Show serial numbers in reservations controls whether an asset's serial number is displayed beside its name in the reservations list and in the booking details. It is switched off by default.
Turn it on when your organization keeps several units of the same model — the same laptop, the same docking station — and people need to tell one unit from another. The serial number then appears as a caption under the asset name wherever reservations are listed, on desktop and on mobile.
The option covers the whole organization, so serial numbers are shown on every reservation surface or on none. For what the reservation and asset lists show once it is on, see Who Holds a Resource.
Changing asset settings requires the Properties manager role; other users can view the current configuration.
Example use cases
- Turning on utility meters before recording monthly electricity readings per office.
- Standardising asset behavior across all locations from one place.
- Showing serial numbers so employees can identify which of several identical devices is reserved for them.
