Pick up day

General

A day off an employee takes back in lieu, typically when a public holiday falls on a Saturday. It is an absence drawn from its own allowance, not from annual leave.

Why it matters

Under the Polish Labour Code, a public holiday falling on any day other than a Sunday lowers that month's working-time norm by eight hours, so a Saturday holiday is usually compensated with another day off. Recording that day as annual leave by mistake quietly takes a day out of the employee's entitlement.

Worked example

A public holiday falls on a Saturday. The employer grants each employee one pick up day, and an employee takes it on a Friday later that month; their annual leave balance stays the same.

In Flowtly

Pick up day is a leave type with an allowance granted per employee on the annual leave tab. The request form shows which allowance is being used, and a request that would take the balance below zero is refused when it is submitted and again when it is approved.
