Business management with Gemini and Google Workspace: connect Flowtly over MCP

Manage invoices, projects and time tracking from Gemini. Connect Flowtly through the Gemini app, Gemini Enterprise for Google Workspace, or Gemini CLI.

MCPIntermediate10 minutes

Before you start

Connect Gemini to Flowtly and it becomes a chat interface for managing your business, alongside the Google Workspace tools your team already uses: invoices, projects, time tracking, contracts and your sales pipeline. Flowtly runs a remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at https://mcp.flowtly.eu/mcp; once Gemini is connected, it answers plain-language questions from your live Flowtly data and can carry out a curated set of named actions, such as logging work time or updating a task.

Google offers three ways in, depending on your account: the Gemini app for personal Google accounts, Gemini Enterprise for Google Workspace teams (set up once by an admin), and Gemini CLI, which works with any account. Every route signs in to Flowtly as you, so Gemini never goes beyond what your own Flowtly permissions allow.

Step-by-step

Complete the flow

  1. 1

Pick the route for your Google account

Personal Google account: follow step 2. Google Workspace account with Gemini Enterprise or Gemini Business: your admin follows step 3, then everyone continues at step 4. Developers, or anyone who prefers the terminal: use Gemini CLI in step 5.

    Tips

    • Custom apps in the Gemini app are not available on work or school accounts. That is a Google restriction, not a Flowtly one.
  2. 2

Gemini app (personal account): add a custom app

On a computer, open gemini.google.com, go to Settings → “Connected apps” and, under “Custom apps”, click “Add a custom app”. Enter https://mcp.flowtly.eu/mcp, click “Next”, then sign in with your Flowtly account and choose the organization Gemini should work in.

    Tips

    • Google limits custom apps to adult users in selected countries and requires Gemini Apps activity to be on.
    • Once connected on the web, Flowtly is also available in the Gemini mobile app.
  3. 3

Google Workspace (admin): add Flowtly as a custom MCP server

In Gemini Enterprise, an admin adds a custom MCP server connector. In the Google Cloud console: Gemini Enterprise → your app → “Connected data stores” → “New data store” → “Custom MCP server”. Enter https://mcp.flowtly.eu/mcp as the server URL. The form also asks for OAuth details (client ID, client secret, authorization URL and token URL); contact Flowtly Support to get them for your organization.

    Tips

    • Your organization policy may block custom MCP servers by default. Allow the mcp.flowtly.eu domain and Flowtly’s sign-in domain before you save.
    • In Gemini Business, the same form is under “Manage team” → “Connected apps” → “Add MCP server”.
  4. 4

Google Workspace (every user): authorize your own account

The first time Gemini uses Flowtly, it shows a sign-in prompt. Log in with your own Flowtly account and choose the organization. From then on Gemini acts with your Flowtly permissions, not the admin’s.

    Tips

    • A connection is bound to exactly one Flowtly organization.
  5. 5

Gemini CLI: add Flowtly to your settings

Install Gemini CLI, open ~/.gemini/settings.json and add Flowtly under mcpServers: "flowtly": { "httpUrl": "https://mcp.flowtly.eu/mcp" }. Start gemini and run /mcp auth flowtly to sign in to Flowtly in your browser. Run /mcp to see the Flowtly tools.

    Tips

    • Put the entry in a project’s .gemini/settings.json instead if only that project should use Flowtly.
  6. 6

Check the organization, then ask your first question

Ask: “Which Flowtly organization am I connected to?” and check the name. Then try a read-only question, such as “Which invoices are overdue?”, before you ask for an action, for example “Create a task to send the Q3 report to Acme by Friday.”

    Tips

    • Approving a supplier invoice is not available over MCP. Use Flowtly Assistant inside Flowtly for approval decisions.

You’re finished!

Gemini is now connected to your Flowtly organization. You can disconnect it at any time from the same place you added it.
